The Farmer, Scotty’s Farm

“As a dairy farmer in Cheshire, my daily routine begins at 5am when I head down to the farm and round up the cows for milking. While one of us focuses on the milking, the other takes on the important task of scraping the shed and feeding the calves, both of which are labour-intensive process.

Once the milking is complete, we shift our attention to maintenance of the farm. This includes making sure everything is well-bedded down for the cows and that they have corn and water. Keeping the animals happy and healthy is a top priority, as it directly impacts their milk production and overall well-being.

Throughout the day, we tackle a variety of other tasks. This can involve moving cows to different pastures, cleaning and washing the machinery we rely on, or performing routine maintenance around the farm. Each job is essential, contributing to the operation of our dairy and the health of our livestock.

One of the key aspects of being a farmer is the need for practical and durable clothing, which is where Harehill comes into play. Their clothing is designed with the demands of outdoor work in mind, combining functionality with comfort. The materials used are robust and weather-resistant whilst working long hours on the farm.

The versatility and comfort of Harehill means I can transition seamlessly from working on the farm to meetings with consultants… and I don’t look like a scruff! Their designs allow for freedom of movement due to the stretch fabrics, which is crucial when I’m tending to the cows or handling equipment. Plus, the Ridgegate trousers look smart when I don’t cover them in calf milk powder!

By the evening, we prepare for the second round of milking, just as we did in the morning. This involves scraping the shed again and ensuring the calves are fed for the night. The work is demanding, but with the right gear, I feel equipped to handle the challenging environment. There’s a deep sense of satisfaction in knowing that I’m providing for my animals and contributing to the local agricultural community.”
